Volleyball Tournament Begins
The Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament begins today here on campus.
The fourth-seed Sugar Bears, coming in on a two-game winning streak, will play fifth-seed Lamar at 6:30 p.m. in the Farris Center. The two teams have met twice this season with each winning at home. Lamar has won four of its last five matches.
Other games scheduled for Friday are Stephen F. Austin against UTSA, Sam Houston State against UT Arlington, and top-seed Texas State against Northwestern State.
If the Sugar Bears win tonight, they will play the winner of the Texas State/Northwestern State game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. All the games will be streamed live on SLC Now.
The Southland Conference announced the all-conference teams for women’s volleyball Wednesday and Sugar Bear Marissa Collins was named to the second team. This is her second postseason honor in just her second year playing for the Sugar Bears. Last season she was named the Southland Conference Freshman Setter of the Year and was named to the All-Southland First Team.
Cristin Curl and Taylor Hammonds also got recognition with honorable mention selections for the All-Conference team. Amber Calhoun of Texas State was named the Southland Volleyball Player of the Year and her coach, Karen Chisum, was named the Southland Coach of the Year.
