International Students Find New St. Valentine’s Day Traditions

The Intensive English Program had a St. Valentine's Day party for international students at Torreyson West last Friday afternoon. More than 50 students attended the event. They created Valentine's cards, ate and played games for two hours.

One of the international students, Hiroki Nagai from Japan, said the celebration is different in the United States than in Japan.

"It's interesting because the way to celebrate Valentine's Day is different. In Japan, only women send a chocolate on that day. But everyone sends something, not particularly chocolate, to the loved one in America. So, it's funny that men should do something here," Nagai said.

Many students send their Valentine's cards to the faculty in the Intensive English Program.
