Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Watching someone play Frisbee with his or her dog isn’t very exciting. Watching fourteen athletes fight for a Frisbee on a playing field is a whole different story.

The UCA men’s and women’s Ultimate Frisbee teams are competing against teams from around the country this weekend in the Hendrix Ultimate Experience tournament at the Centennial Park soccer complex in Conway.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until about 4 p.m. today and Sunday. Here is the schedule of the men’s games and here is the women’s schedule.

The UCA team was formed in 2009 and gained official USA Ultimate (USAU) status in 2010. Most teams experience very few wins their first year but the UCA Abduction team won the Hullaballoo Huckfest tournament at John Brown University.

Jarrod Hockett, president of the UCA Ultimate Club and co-captain of the men’s team, said that many of the team’s members played other sports before joining Ultimate Frisbee.

“You can teach throws, but you can’t teach athleticism,” Hockett said.

So what separates Ultimate Frisbee from the game that you play at your family reunions? You can find a list of official rules here.
