UCA: There’s an App for That

Need an update on the Bears game or to contact your professor? There's an app for that.

UCA has created a free iPhone app that puts much of the school's Web site on your cell phone. The application includes a calendar of events, a news section, sports updates, and UCA's YouTube Channel and Flickr gallery. After all, why pass the time on a walk from Irby Hall to the Student Center with idle chatter with a friend when you could be watching an interview with Miss Arkansas or checking out high-definition pictures of President Allen Meadors?

One of the main features of the app is the ability to contact faculty or staff by phone or email through the application's directory. The directory is on a search bar so users simply type the name of the faculty member they are looking for and they get contact information instantly.

Senior Barry Bartoszek was among the first on campus to download the new app. He said the directory is useful. "The list of contacts makes it a lot easier to find out how to get in touch with your teachers. It's a lot easier than going through the actual Web site to find their contact information," he said.

The app also provides the "You Belong" section, which helps recruit students to the campus, and the "Bear Zone," which includes a map of the campus.

Bear Mail is not included in the app. Bartoszek said he was disappointed by that.

"I really would have used Bear Mail if it was on the app," he said. "Probably every day."

You can find the UCA app at the iTunes App Store by searching University of Central Arkansas, or here.
