Students Kicking Butts

Smoking is about to become illegal on campus, making instant criminals of the hundreds of people who regularly gather outside buildings all over campus to feed their habit. UCA says it understands and wants to help.

The Health & Wellness Center has created the UCA Smoking Cessation program to help smokers quit. The Center is offering six, one-hour classes that provide information on quitting and techniques for doing it. The classes meet at noon each Wednesday in the Student Health Center, Room 307, through March 10. Dr. Jean-Claude Martin, director the Center, is teaching them. The program is free for students, faculty and staff.

Smoking ban effective July 1

The next two classes are:

  • Feb. 17 - Tips on quitting and activities to replace smoking.
  • Feb. 24 - Ways to manage the craving for cigarettes.

Can't make the classes? The Center has a couple of other options. They have an online quit guide that includes expert advice and coaching support. Still not working for you? Try the self-help books at their Resource Center.

  1. I don't see why banning smoking is a good thing. Its just that people should be allowed to smoke outdoors, where "2nd hand smoke" won't damage anything else. besides who's going to enforce this? The limited numbers of UCA police. Wrong good luck with getting cigarettes off campus, UCA.
