Mitch Rueter, a senior basketball player, has been named the male Student Athlete of the Year and Chloe Smith, a junior volleyball player, is the female Student Athlete of the Year.

Rueter was the 21^st player in UCA basketball history to score over 1,000 points in his career and ranked tenth in three-point shooting. Smith was named the Southland Conference volleyball player of the year this year for the second consecutive season.

Both received the awards at the annual UCA Sports Banquet on Monday night in the Student Center Ballroom. About 400 student athletes and coaches attended. The 37 seniors at the banquet were given senior rings and a one-year membership in the Letterman’s Club.

Steven McRoberts, the women’s volleyball coach, was named Coach of the Year. Bo Conner, a UCA alumnus, was named the Purple Circle Member of the Year.

The women’s sports Academic Achievement Award was given to the women’s volleyball and tennis teams who both had an accumulated GPA of almost 3.5. The men’s sports Academic Achievement Award was given to the men’s baseball team which had an accumulated GPA of 3.0. The cumulative GPA of all the 400 student athletes was 2.87.

The main speaker for the night was Brad Teague, athletic director.
