The new Miss Essence for 2011 is Portia Cheatham. Cheatham received a $1,000 scholarship with her title. She also received the Interview Award with a $200 scholarship, the Evening Wear Award and was named Miss Congeniality. Brittney Bennett is Miss Essence 2010. Bennett was crowned last night before a crowd of about 200 people in Reynolds Performance Hall. She also won the categories of People’s Choice, Miss Congeniality, Personal Interview and Most Ad Sales.
