"And the winner is ... Marilyn Manroe," the judges announced.

Actually, the winner was Josh Lyon, a member of Kappa Sigma, who was imitating Marilyn Monroe. He was sponsored in last night's beauty pageant by Kappa Sigma.

Lyon was one of eight men who competed in the fourth annual "Dude Looks Like a Lady" beauty pageant to help raise money for charity. The event, sponsored by Sigma Sigma Sigma, featured fraternity members dressed in female attire performing musical and comical skits.

About 200 students paid $5 each to see the show.

There were three rounds in the pageant. In the first round, the contestants introduced themselves and the sorority or fraternity that sponsored them. The men strutted across the stage in their wigs, tight dresses, and push-up bras. They disguised their voices and introduced themselves using various women's names.

After the first round of competition, the audience watched a dance competition that featured two members of each sorority and fraternity that was present. The members of the organization danced collectively on the stage while the crowd cheered them on. The winner for the dance-off was decided by applause from the audience.

In the second round, the contestants showcased their talent and dancing abilities in what was the most comical portion of the pageant. The third round was the formalwear competition. The contestants wore formal dresses and were escorted onto the stage where they were asked a question.

In addition to the overall winner, two other titles were awarded. The "People's Choice Award" was given to B.J. Harrison of Kappa Sigma who was sponsored by Sigma Kappa. The first runner-up was Reed Madden of Pi Kappa Alpha who was sponsored by Alpha Sigma Tau.

"I believe that this is a great opportunity to improve Greek life on campus," said Dylan Doughty, a member of Kappa Sigma. "This makes the Greek unity stronger on campus."

Henson joined Alpha Sigma Tau this semester and was sponsored by Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Last year's Spring Queen Bridget Thomas was there to crown her.

"I'm very happy about winning and glad I could represent the Pikes," said Henson.

Thirteen girls competed for the title last night in Ida Waldran Auditorium. They were judged in a letter round, personality round, formal round and their answer to a final question. The judges named a winner in each category.

Henson also won the letter round. The winner of the personality round was Alpha Sigma Alpha member Lindsey Dacus representing Beta Upsilon Chi fraternity. Alpha Sigma Tau member Makenzie Moore representing Kappa Sigma fraternity won the formal round. The People's Choice Award went to Sigma Kappa member Kayla Miller who represented Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.

All the new member classes performed a strut in a competition between rounds. The Alpha Sigma Alpha new member class won the competition.They received a $100 prize that will be donated to their favorite charity.

The girls will compete in three categories. The first category is the swimsuit/toga round when each girl shows off the letters of the fraternity or sorority she is representing. Next, they will display their personalities by each performing a skit. In the final round, they will model formal clothing.

There will be a strut competition between each round performed by other new sorority members who have joined since the beginning of the fall semester. The sororities competing are Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Zeta, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Kappa.

There will also be door prizes and a raffle between rounds of competition.

The audience can vote for their favorites by putting money in the "People's Choice" jar of each contestant. The contestant who collects the most money will be named the "People's Choice" winner at the end of the pageant.

“I think it’ll be a great show and all 13 contestants have put so much time and effort into this,” said Jordan Strong, Kappa Sigma's chairman of fundraising. Kappa Sigma is sponsoring the pageant.

Admission is $5.

One is operated jointly by Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Tau at the Sig Ep house at 334 Donaghey Ave. They promise that it is so real that we will be terrified by it. It is open from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. today. Its hours are from 8:30 p.m. until midnight Friday. It costs $5 to enter it.

The other one opening today is the Kappa Sigma house at the fraternity's house at 430 Western St. It is open from 8 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. It also costs $5 to enter.

The third haunted house opens Friday. The "haunted mansion" is sponsored by the university's Housing & Residence Life office. It is in the big white house on Donaghey Avenue between Thompson Hall and College Avenue. It is open from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will cost you $1 or two non-perishable food items if you have a student identification card. Without the identification, you'll have to pay $3 or donate four food items.

All the money and food will be donated to Bethlehem House in Conway.

The Spring Queen pageant will be held at 7 p.m. today in Ida Waldron Auditiorium. Admission is $6 at the door. T-shirts and raffle tickets also will be sold. All proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The pageant allows 12 selected sorority pledges to compete in four categories: Modeling their sorority letters, wearing togas, modeling formal wear and displaying their personalities. One of them will be named "Spring Queen."

The pageant is hosted by the Kappa Sigma fraternity and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
