SGA accepted a proposal by Housing & Residence Life and the Physical Plant to provide $50,000 of the total amount needed to build the amphitheater. The other two departments have to raise an equal amount of money before SGA will provide its share. The money from SGA will be used on the first phase of the construction.

The courtyard already is a popular gathering spot for campus events and the amphitheater will be designed to enhance that use. SGA plans to have it ready by the fall semester.

SGA announced last semester that it had about $200,000 of unspent money in its account and asked for everyone on campus to submit ideas for projects up to $50,000. A committee reviewed the ideas last month and SGA approved three of them Jan. 31.

SGA also approved a $11,635 project to do some restoration at Ida Waldron Auditorium. The money will be used for several repair jobs, including leveling the stage floor and hemming the stage curtain. The money also will be used to buy a new spotlight and four stage lights, according to Kyle Boyd, vice president of finance for SGA.

The third project is $4,000 to build the Bear Trail Disc Golf course. The course will have nine holes and will go around the campus nature reserve but will not interfere with the integrity of the reserve. The course will have 10 discs for rent through the HPER Center.

SGA rejected a $38,000 project to build a "class ring statue."

It seems that the hosts of the annual show, the Iota Pi chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, couldn't find enough UCA police officers to provide security at the event. The UCAPD officers are busy preparing for a campus drill on March 11.

This year's show includes Greek organization from throughout Central Arkansas.

Phi Beta Sigma offers $2,500 in prize money to the top three finishers. The prizes are:

• First place - $1,500
• Second place - $750
• Third place - $250

Tickets for the April 23 show are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the show. The show still will be performed in Ida Waldron.
