Sugar Bears Swept in Tennis

The Sugar Bears tennis team was swept 7-0 by the Lamar Lady Cardinals in Conway yesterday.

The Sugar Bears fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The day started off with every UCA doubles pair losing their matches, 8-2.

The Sugar Bears had to make last minute changes to their lineup which contributed to their poor performance, Coach Rebecca Miller said. She had to pair players who don't normally play with each other.

Sophomore Allison Hartman was not able to play in her singles match because of a wrist injury. She was replaced with senior Jordan Short, who doesn't usually play in singles matches.

The Sugar Bears were matched up against a very tough Lady Cardinals team, Miller said. So far this season, the Lady Cardinals are 3-1 in conference and 6-5 overall.

“They worked really hard against an opponent that has repeatedly been in the top three in the conference,” she said.

The Sugar Bears will play again on March 6 against Sam Houston State and on March 7 against Stephen F. Austin. Both matches will begin at 10 a.m.
