SOS: Eat Pancakes
The student orientation staff, those volunteers who help freshmen find their way around campus, is raising money Sunday with its annual pancake breakfast at Stoby's.
It begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. It costs $5 for the all the pancakes and sausage you can eat.
SOS will use the money to pay for a training program at the 4H center in Little Rock where they will learn ways to make the annual Welcome Week event for freshmen as effective as possible.
"Like most organizations, SOS has a pretty tight budget," SOS member Emily Bradley said. "We raise money through organization sponsorships and Stoby's pancake breakfast."
SOS members are upperclassmen who answer questions, give tours and organize events for incoming freshmen during Welcome Week. Last year, the group organized the "Battle of the Residence Halls" competition among all the dorms. Most freshmen learn to recognize the bright orange shirts SOS wears during the week.
"SOS is committed to providing the best transition to UCA a freshman can get," SOS member Barry Bartoszek said. "We want every student to experience how great of a place UCA can be and help them feel comfortable."
