Soccer Team Beats Drake
The men's soccer team (2-7-4) had a 1-0-1 week in games against Evansville (5-6-1) and Drake (10-5-1).
In the game against Evansville, the Bears ended the game with a 0-0 tie. UCA goal keeper Paxti Shortsleeve made all five of his saves on shots on goal. Chris Deaville lead the team with two shots with Ethan Miller and Nick Figaro each having one shot on goal.
The Bears managed an upset win over the Drake Bulldogs, who are atop the conference standings after a five-game winning streak and were heavily favored to win the game. Shortsleeve had eight saves while only allowing one goal. Matt Taphorn and David Ngwenya each had one goal for the Bears. The 2-1 win is only the second victory for the Bears this season and their first conference win since joining the Missouri Valley Conference last year.
The Bears will be playing Memphis at home at 2 p.m. Wednesday and Creighton in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 29.
