Journalist, Author Here Today

The Black History Month events continue on campus today with a visit by ReShonda Tate Billingsley, an award-winning journalist and best-selling author.

You have two chances to meet Billingsley. The best opportunity to talk to her will be during a reception at 4:30 p.m. in room 103 of Stanley Russ Hall. She also will sign her books after a 6:30 p.m. lecture in McCastlain Hall. The topic of her speech is "Pursuing Your Passion."

Billingsley has published 18 books, including seven teen novels. Her novel, Let the Church Say Amen, is being made into a movie. Billingsley is the executive producer of the film.

Billingsley also has worked for more than two decades as a journalist. She has been a reporter and anchor for NBC, ABC and FOX television stations in Texas and Oklahoma. She is an editor at the Houston Defender newspaper and co-host of "From Cover to Cover," a literary talk show on KPFT, 90.1-FM, in Houston.

"I think her topic is a fitting tribute to Black History Month because she will be talking about tapping into your passion to live a purpose-filled life," said Angela Jackson, interim director of Minority Services.
