Reading Goes Public This Week
There will be a public reading on campus every day this week as part of the annual ArkaText literary festival.
The events began today with a student reading at 2 p.m. in Thompson Hall. A faculty reading is scheduled for X-period tomorrow in Room 331 of Thompson Hall.
Other scheduled events, all in Room 331 of Thompson Hall, are:
- Gene Lyons, a political columnist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and non-fiction writer, will discuss the craft of writing non-fiction at 11 a.m. and read from his work at 2 p.m.
- Stacey Jay, who writes gothic young-adult novels, will discuss writing fiction at 10:50 a.m. and read from her work at 1:40 p.m.
- Dusty Higgins, a graphic novelist, will discuss the form at 11 a.m. and read from his work at 2 p.m.
The writers will meet individually with students and hold writing workshops while on campus this week.
“Our festival is especially tied with the Artist-in-Residence program,” said Terry Wright, professor of writing. “We started it to show students that there is a thriving literary culture in our state. You don’t have to go to New York to find something like this."
