Lu Hardin Buys Naming Rights

Former UCA President Lu Hardin bought the naming rights to the new College of Business building yesterday and had his name added to the front sometime last night.

"Looks good, don't it?" Hardin said this morning. "I am living the dream now, baby."

Hardin said he bought the naming rights with the money he was paid to leave UCA and the state almost two years ago.

"It was free money," he said. "Now, it's kind of like I'm giving it back. That makes me the good guy again, right?"

Hardin said he drove from his new home in West Palm Beach, Fla., to pay the money in cash. He arranged for a construction crew to install the new letters spelling out Lu Hardin Hall during the night as a "gift" to UCA.

"It's only right, if you think about it," Hardin said, squinting his good eye. "I mean, look at all I did for this place. You people would be nothing without me. You'd be the same hick, backwater, slum I once loved so much. There should be a statue of me on this campus."

Current President Allen Meadors said finding Hardin's name on the building this morning was a "surprise."

"Wow, I mean, I'd heard stories about this guy but, jeez, what is that all about," Meadors said. "He probably should have consulted somebody first or something. I don't think he can use letters that big."

The dean of the College of Business, Pat Cantrell, declined to discuss the specifics of the deal. It's "complicated business stuff" that our readers wouldn't understand, Cantrell said.

The new face of business

"What more do you want to know?" she said. "You've seen the sign. It's a done deal. Negotiations are closed. The administration had its chance. They obviously don't read the fine print very well, do they?"

Hardin left campus early this morning for the 18-hour drive back to his new job as president of Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach. It's a nice private Christian school in a wealthy part of the country.

Just in case you miss our former leader, you can click here to see him telling the folks at his new school how excited he is to be their president. It might sound familiar. If you like that one, here's one of him pitching some kind of program at PBAU.

It's April 1. Know what that means?

  1. When did he buy this? I never heard about it. How did he have the money??

  2. Can we get an update on this article? Because I know that the business building has College of Business on the front of it right now, not Hardin Hall... Did this actually ever happen and if so why was it changed? I would appreciate a follow up article.

  3. This article was written on April Fool's Day. "Know what that means?" Thanks for reading The Fountain. And a special thanks for participating.
