Kris Allen Here Today for Benefit Walk

You are being asked to shed your shoes today and go barefoot to raise money to buy shoes for children in Rwanda.

If you need some encouragement, Kris Allen, a former UCA student and reigning American Idol, will be on campus to support the event. Allen will share his recent experiences in Rwanda and perform some songs.

It's all part of the national "One Day Without Shoes" event sponsored by Friends of TOMS, a nonprofit subsidiary of TOMS Shoes that provides shoes for underpriviledged children in developing countries.  The event is designed to raise awareness of what it's like for millions of children who don't have shoes.

UCA freshman Josh Whitehurst, a TOMS representative in Conway, organized the local event, including a barefoot walk from the Student Center to the Reynolds Performance Hall. Registration for the event starts at 2:15 p.m. in the courtyard outside the Student Center. The walk begins at 3 p.m.

Tickets are required for the walk. They are free but there is a limited number available. Everyone who registers and walks will be entered into a drawing for a free pair of TOMS shoes donated by Wilkinson's and HipSway. T-shirts will be available for $10.

All proceeds will go to Bridge2Rwanda.
