NFL Drafts UCA Player
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected UCA Bears defensive end Larry Hart in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft yesterday.
Hart was the 143rd pick overall and the only player selected from the Southland Conference. No other Bears player has ever been selected by the NFL so high in the draft.
Hart is the first Bears football player drafted by the NFL since 2007 when defensive end Jacob Ford was taken by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round.
Hart was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in each of the last two years. He shared the award last year with Stephen F. Austin State University defensive end Tim Knicky.
Hart was tied for second in the Southland Conference last season with 11 sacks. Hart was also ninth in tackles for a loss with 10. He led the Southland Conference in forced fumbles with four. Hart also had a fumble recovery, one interception and blocked two kicks.
