Fite Nite: Get Ready to Rumble
Fite Nite, one of the oldest and biggest social events of the year, begins tonight.
The two-night event is being held in the Conway Expo Center at 2501 E. Oak St. and is being sponsored for the 32nd year by Sigma Tau Gamma. The fights begin at 7 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night.
Organizers said they are expecting at least 25 fighters. They are matched in weight categories in single-elimination bouts. Winners tonight will fight again tomorrow night for the championship of their weight categories. Overall winners receive a trophy and $100 cash prize.
You might want to get there early. Long lines usually form at the door and the event has sold out in the past. Sig Tau moved the fights from the National Guard Armory on Exchange Street to the new Expo Center at the county fairgrounds to accommodate a larger crowd this year. Organizer said they expect about 1,200 people at the event each night.

At least 15 girls have agreed to be the "ring girls" who walk around the ring between rounds holding a sign bearing the number of the next round. One of the girls will be named Miss Knockout and receive a plaque and cash prize.
Tickets are $8 at the door. Sig Tau will be selling T-shirts for $12 each.
"There's not a better event at UCA," said Mason Henry, a Sig Tau member. "It gets better every year. The fights are intense and the ring girls are as beautiful as ever. This is, by far, my favorite event that we host as a fraternity."
Here's a video of some of the action from 2008.
