Improv Class Invades Student Center

April 23, 2010 by: Will Hehemann

If you were in the Student Center about 1:10 p.m. yesterday, you probably noticed the small group of people moving among the students and faculty in a manner resembling something from Monty Python.

Most people noticed and gathered to watch as the 15 students marched and bounced through the lunchtime crowd at a hurried pace. They were completely expressionless, as if they were in a trance. Then, they began to chant something that nobody could understand.

Watching it all with the rest of us was Kevin Browne, associate professor of theatre, who organized the event. These were students from his Improvisational Theory class, he said. They were experimenting space, he said.

After their 10-minute jaunt through the lobby of the Student Center, the students gathered in a circle, put their hands together and shouted, “Global Affairs Committee.” That’s the group’s name, apparently.

The group also performed an improvisation show last night in the Snow Fine Arts Center.
