Basketball Player Faces Discipline

The athletic department is considering the punishment it will impose on Chris Poellnitz, a junior guard on the Bears basketball team who was caught with marijuana in his room the week before Spring Break.

The McNeese State Cowboys beat the Bears baseball team, 12-8, last night at Bear Stadium.
Senior pitcher Michael Wild took the loss for the Bears. Wild is now 2-5 on the season with a 5.51 ERA. Junior pitcher Dustin Lloyd took the win for McNeese State, giving him a 1-4 record on the season with a 6.14 ERA.

The UCA Bears baseball team will take on the McNeese State Cowboys for a three-game series beginning tomorrow at Bears Stadium.
The teams will play at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be the Bears first meeting with McNeese State this year.

Jason Anderson, the softball coach for the Central Baptist College Mustangs, won the home-run derby on campus Wednesday and took home a 26-inch Vizio flat-screen television and a Best Buy gift card.

The Bears baseball team defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs last night at Bear Stadium in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel.
The Bears employed the pitching by committee strategy to defeat the Bulldogs, using eight pitchers in the game. None of the Bears’ pitchers pitched more than two innings.

UCA hosted its first track and field meet in 20 years Saturday and won 27 of the 37 events, despite bad weather and a public address system malfunction at the Bill Stephens Track Complex.
The Sugar Bears recorded eight Southland Conference outdoor championship qualifying marks and set four school records. The Bears had 14 qualifying marks and set two school records.

Corliss Williamson is the new coach of the Bears basketball team, UCA Athletic Director Brad Teague announced this afternoon.
Williamson is an Arkansas native who played high school ball for the Russellville Cyclones and became a statewide legend playing for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. UCA President Allen Meadors congratulated the Sugar Bears volleyball team last night for its conference championship and academic achievement.
Meadors made the comments at the Prince Center during a small ceremony to award the members of the volleyball team their Southland Conference Championship rings. The team finished the season undefeated in conference play, 16-0, and 27-3 overall.

The Sugar Bears volleyball team will receive their 2009 Southland Conference Championship rings at a 7 p.m. ceremony today in the Prince Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The Sugar Bears were undefeated in conference play this year with a record of 16-0 and an overall record of 27-3.

The university is sponsoring the fourth annual bench press competition at 10 a.m. Saturday in the HPER Center. Weigh-ins begin at 9 a.m.
The competition is divided into weight categories with a winner in each. There also will be three overall winners for both men and women competitors. No prizes are being awarded but each winner...
