If the new garden on Bruce Street has anything that looks appealing to you in the coming weeks, help yourself. That's why it's there.

Students involved with the Wesley Foundation planted a fruit and vegetable garden on their property next to the Lewis Science Center last Friday. It contains peas, blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, bell peppers, cauliflower and raspberries.

Anyone can pick from the garden. Students and staff members in the Wesley Foundation house on the property can assist you.

“It’s a response to what our students wanted, which was to reach out to the community and be a part of the green movement,” said Rev. John Palmer, the Wesley Foundation campus minister.

The organization planted the garden for the first time last year and it was successful enough that they decided to do it again. A lot of students and faculty came and picked from it, Palmer said.

“The garden, for me, is a way to meet people and fellowship,” said Sara Bayles, the president of the organization.

Most of the fruit and vegetables won't be ready to pick until the end of April. The garden is at the corner of Bruce and Western streets.

The elderly residents of College Square Retirement Community got some excitement this past weekend when members of the Chi Alpha Campus Ministry visited them to play some bingo.

About 40 of the residents came out of their rooms and gathered in the ballroom Saturday morning to play the game. They won prizes including UCA shirts, cookies and peppermints. The grand prize was a Wal-Mart gift card. The ministry provided all the prizes.

“Our main focus is to show people God’s love and take the focus off ourselves and put it on other people,” said Jennifer Mouser.

A lot of the residents of College Square are UCA alumni.

The event was one of the many projects that Chi Alpha takes part in called the Nehemiah Projects. The project isn’t always the same. In the past, they have cleaned up local properties.

The next Nehemiah Project will be in April.
