Campus Events Postponed by Snow
Today's symposium on the Central High School crisis and the opening weekend performance of "Court Martial at Fort Devens" have been postponed because of winter weather that forced the closing of the campus.
Both events were planned as part of the campus observance of Black History Month.
No date has been set for the symposium. Tonight's performance of the play has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bridges/Larson Theatre in the Snow Fine Arts Center.
The symposium, "The Crisis Mr. Faubus Made," will detail the role of the Arkansas Gazette in the 1957 integration of Central High School in Little Rock. The scheduled events included a panel discussion this afternoon with Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine who is on campus for the event, and a showing of a documentary film about the topic tonight.
"Court Martial at Fort Devens" is based on the true story of several black women who joined the Women's Army Corp during World War II to become medical assistants but were limited to cleaning duties by a racist colonel. When two of the women defy him, they are court martialed. The ensuing trial explores the issues of prejudice and injustice.
Previously scheduled performances of the play remain as scheduled. The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 16-18, in the Bridges/Larson Theatre. Admission is free.
Black History Month events resume next week. Here's a list of the month's events.
