Bears Face Demons in La.

The football Bears (6-3, 5-1) are on the road today in Natchitoches, La., putting their five-game Southland Conference win streak on the line against the Northwestern State Demons (5-3, 3-1).

Kickoff  is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. and is featured on the Southland Television Network. This is the final SLC game for the Bears who enter the contest on a hot streak. UCA ran away with homecoming last weekend against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions with a 55-39 victory. Nathan Dick led the offense, completing 20 of 28 passes for 299 yards with five touchdowns and one interception, earning himself the Southland Conference Player of the Week honor again.

The Demons are also on a three-game win streak after their 23-10 victory last week against Texas State.

This is the fifth meeting between the Bears and Demons. NSU won last year, 24-19, in Conway after stopping the Bears on a last-second play. They feature a defense built to stop SLC running backs, giving up just 76.5 rushing yards a game in SLC play and just 121.6 overall.

The Bear defense has played well of late but will be without possibly their best player for the first-half today. Safety Jestin Love, Love, who was ejected in the first half of last weekend's game for making contact with an official, is suspended for the first half of today's game.

"Student-athletes making contact with the game officials is a clear violation of the NCAA football playing rules," said league commissioner Tom Burnett, "and is also defined as misconduct by the Southland’s sportsmanship bylaws. Our game participants play at an exciting, emotional level, but must do so within the parameters set by the NCAA and conference."
