Bears Beat Devilettes in Softball

The UCA Bears softball team defeated the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes, 10-2, yesterday at Farris Field. 

The Bears had 11 hits off the Mississippi Valley State pitching staff, including six for extra bases. 

Freshman pitcher Kelsie Armstrong recorded the win for the Bears with a complete game performance that included 14 strikeouts. Armstrong only allowed two hits from the Devilettes offense. She is now 12-12 on the season. 

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Derting took the loss for the Devilettes. Derting gave up six runs, only four of which were earned, on eight hits in 3.2 innings.

 Three Bears players had two RBIs each against the Devilettes pitching staff. Junior designated player Shayleen Ristau, freshman catcher Melanie Bryant and freshman second baseman Melissa Bryant each record two RBIs. Freshman center fielder Candice Gauntt scored three of the Bears’ 10 runs.
