Baseball Bears Beat Bulldogs 1-0
The Bears baseball team defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs last night at Bear Stadium in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel.
The Bears employed the pitching by committee strategy to defeat the Bulldogs, using eight pitchers in the game. None of the Bears' pitchers pitched more than two innings.
Junior Chase Huchingson started the game on the mound for the Bears and was awarded the win despite only pitching one inning. Huchingson is now 1-0 for the season. After the first inning, Huchingson switched to designated hitter and scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by junior first baseman Clay Washington.
Bobby Pritchett played shortstop for the Bears for the first eight innings of the game before taking the mound in the ninth to record the save. The save was Pritchett’s first of the season.

Pritchett said that playing two positions in the same game can be pretty difficult.
“It can be challenging. I’ve been doing it for four years and still haven’t figured it out,” Pritchett said. “I’ve had some success, but it’s a tough task.”
The Bears won the game despite only having three base hits. Huchingson singled in the first inning, Washington singled in the seventh inning and senior outfielder Tye Throneberry singled in the eighth inning.
Bulldogs junior center fielder Joey Ford led all hitters in the game with two hits. Bulldogs junior starting pitcher Josh Barrett pitched 7.1 innings of three-hit ball but took the hard luck loss. Barrett is 0-1 on the season for the Bulldogs.
