Bears Begin Three-Game Series

The UCA Bears baseball team will take on the McNeese State Cowboys for a three-game series beginning tomorrow at Bears Stadium.

The teams will play at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be the Bears first meeting with McNeese State this year.

Head Coach Doug Clark said McNeese State is much better than it was last year. “They have a coach who pitched in the big leagues so that is one of their strengths,” Clark said.

Clark also expressed concern with McNeese State’s infielder freshman Lee Orr. “Orr has a lot of power, and looks to be a great strength to their team,” Clark said.

Bear’s senior outfielder Tye Throneberry who has a .336 career average with 111 hits, 59 runs, 16 doubles and 53 RBIs said the Bear’s season is getting better. Although the team started slow, the pitching has improved and injured players are returning.

“We have people injured that are starting to come back, which will help us to continue to improve,” Throneberry said. ”Since we are eligible for the conference championship this year, that should give us something else to strive for this season.”

The Bears have a record of 5-11. They are 4-5 at home and 1-6 on the road. The Bears have a Southland Conference record of 0-3. The Bears have had a lot of close games at home, but seem to struggle on the road.

The Cowboys have a record of 7-14 this season. The Cowboys started the season 4-1 before beginning to struggle. Most of McNeese State’s games, wins and loses, were close.

After the series with McNeese State, the Bears will face the University of Louisiana at Monroe at home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
