Bears Beat Billikens in Series
The Bears baseball team defeated the Saint Louis University Billikens, 6-4, in Conway yesterday and won two out of three games over the weekend in their series against the Billikens.
The Billikens were the first to score. Sophomore left fielder Steve Fernandez hit a line drive down the first base line for a double that brought sophomore infielder Zach Miller home to make the score 1-0 at the top of the second inning.
The Bears answered quickly with one run during the bottom of the second inning and three more during the bottom of the third. Sophomore outfielder Greg Noble started out the inning with a double to mid-left field.
Freshman outfielder Ethan Harris was next at bat and hit a triple down the first base line that brought Noble in for the Bears' first run of the inning. The Bears brought in two more runs to end the third inning.
The Bears would go on to score a run in both the fourth and fifth innings and then hold the Billikens to only two more runs for the remainder of the game.
The highlight of the game was senior pitcher Bobby Pritchett and his impressive six innings of pitching. Pritchett had six strikeouts during the game with a total 108 pitches thrown. Coach Doug Clark said his pitching was an important factor in the team’s victory
Junior pitcher Evan Cox came in during the top of the seventh inning to relieve Pritchett. The team has been suffering on the mound because several of their main pitchers are out due to injury, Clark said. Nathan Ball, Chase Huchingson and Ethan McKinzie are the pitchers who have been injured along with Reece Cross who recently hurt his finger.
Clark said the team’s offense has been doing well recently despite the two losses during the past week. He said he hopes to see the team’s offense continue to grow and get better every single day and every single game.

The Bears will be on the road until March 12 when they return to Conway to start off conference play against Stephen F. Austin State University. The Bears next series is against the University of Nevada, Reno this weekend in Reno, Nev.
