Art Contest Open to All Students

If you have artistic talent but aren't an art student, the Baum Gallery is giving you the chance to display your work and maybe get a nice chunk of money for it.

Any UCA student can enter up to three works of art from any medium to the 2010 Annual Student Competitive Exhibition by Friday. Artwork must be labeled and the proper forms must be filled out to be considered for the exhibit. Entry forms are available on the UCA Web site

Submission of any type of artwork, from film to photography, graphics to paintings, sculpture to watercolor and much more, is encouraged. The art must have been created within the past year.

Three amounts of cash awards, the highest being $1,000, will be given to art pieces that show a high degree of excellence. Winning pieces will be selected this weekend after the submission date.

The opening reception for the exhibit is free and will be held at 4 p.m. March 11.   A second reception will be held at 2 p.m., March 14.  The exhibit will remain on display through April 1.

San Diego artist Amy E. Mayfield will be judging the 50 pieces of artwork for the exhibit. Mayfield holds an MFA from the Art Institute in Chicago.

Art major Mark Kiefer said: “It’s a lot of fun and a great chance to see what everyone else in the UCA art community is coming up with this year and it’s free.”
