UCA Students in ACIS Championship

Four UCA students will compete in the American Collegiate Intermural Sports national championship later this month at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The students qualified by winning a series of events on campus last month. The events included running an obstacle course, swimming, bicycling and running.

The students, total points and class are:

  • Kari Anne Servedio - 165 points - Freshman
  • Harold Crow - 158 - Junior
  • Brandon Klar - 138 - Senior
  • Cassie Howard - 129 - Junior

The students will be accompanied by senior Chris Schwen, an intern at the HPER Center. Schwen was one of eight interns selected by the ACIS from more than 200 schools to participate in the competition.

Howard said she was surprised to be selected for the championship. She said friends convinced her to take the challenge on campus. Now, she is training for the competition with the other students.

"We're going to try our best and have been training with a weight, swimming and running plan in the mornings to help,” Howard said.

The national championship will be held April 24. The events include a triathlon, tug-of-war and an obstacle course.
